Pakistan Hockey Team Fails to Qualify for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

The three-time Olympics gold medalist Pakistan hockey team has failed to qualify for the 2020 edition of the event in Tokyo.

A dominant Netherlands side defeated Pakistan with ease in the second match of the qualifying series. The scoreline read 6-1 in favor of the hosts.

With an aggregate score of 10-5, the Dutch sealed their Olympics seats. The hosts were in the front right from the word go as they didn’t let the Green Shirts settle, scoring two goals in the first quarter.

The Dutch added four more to their tally and Pakistan’s only goal came from the stick of Rizwan Ali on a penalty corner.

The first match proved to be a scintillating clash as Pakistan drew 4-4 against the world number 3 side, giving hope to the hockey lovers, not just in Pakistan but from across the world as well.

A country with a rich history – the Green shirts have won 3 Olympics, 4 World Cups, 4 Champion Trophy titles and 8 Asian Games trophies – but have yet again failed to make it to the Olympics.

Pakistan didn’t feature in the Rio Olympics in 2016 either.
