Ford to Use Coffee Bean Waste to Make Auto Parts

In recent times, auto companies have started looking into ways to adapt for a world that is dealing with climate change. Companies have started working on electric powered vehicles as well as offering hybrid variants of their existing model.

Ford Motor Company, the US-based automotive behemoth has come up with a novel idea to utilize waste products. The company said on Friday that they will use coffee waste to make auto parts.

The automaker released a press statement in which it said that it will collaborate with the international fast-food chain McDonalds and process coffee beans.

It said, “The two companies have discovered that coffee bean waste can be transformed into a highly durable material that can be used in automobile parts.”

According to Ford, the components derived from the waste meet the quality specifications needed to create the headlight mounting panel and other interior and exterior body parts. They have discovered that heating coffee chaff at high temperatures while keeping the oxygen levels low and adding plastic along with other additives will result in a material that can be transformed into various forms.

The statement added, “Moreover, parts produced by this method are 20% lighter and need 25% less energy in the molding process.”
