Fawad Alam’s Stats Since 2015 Prove Why Deserves to be in Pakistan Team

The last time Fawad Alam featured for Pakistan in Test match cricket was 10 years ago.

However, his hard work in the domestic circuit has finally paid off and he has been selected for Pakistan’s Test squad against Sri Lanka.

Fawad, now 34, recently crossed 12,000 runs milestone in first-class cricket after scoring a double century. The left-handed batsman has remained a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and his exclusion from the international team remained extremely questionable throughout.

He averages 56.84 in the 165 first-class matches he has played and here are his Quaid-e-Azam (QeA) trophy performances:

  • 2015-16: 672 runs, average of 56.00
  • 2016-17: 570 runs, average of 40.71
  • 2017-18: 699 runs, average 69.90
  • 2018-19 (on-going): 781 runs, average 71.00

Following the tour of Australia, it was obvious that the Pakistan Test team needed changes and Fawad’s selection has come at the expense of Iftikhar Ahmed.

After facing hardship, Fawad has eventually been selected and he opened up his feelings. Speaking to the media, he said:

I’ve received a lot of support & love. I think this recall is the result of prayers. This also motivated me to not give up & to keep working hard. I’m thankful to all those people who expressed their love & support & hope they keep praying & supporting me.

He further added that he remained positive and focused on improving as a batsman.

I didn’t let negativity affect me. My friends always motivated me to keep performing and to keep knocking on the selector’s door. My father always used to say that I should keep fighting and not get worried about not being selected.
