Samsung May Use MediaTek’s 5G Chipsets For its Affordable Smartphones

According to some internal sources, Samsung is currently under the process of forming a partnership with the Taiwanese Chipset Manufacturer MediaTek. The Company is allegedly looking to acquire 5G Chipsets for its A-series and M-series smartphones.

2020 will be the year of 5G smartphones. Many OEMs are currently working on manufacturing low-end and mid-range 5G smartphones. Xiaomi has claimed that it will launch at least 10 reasonably priced 5G smartphones by the end of 2020. Similarly, other OEMs, like Oppo, Vivo, and Huawei are working on launching smartphones with MediaTek’s recently released mid-range 5G SoCs.

As per a report from the China Times, the Korean Giant approached the Taiwan-based silicon manufacturer for its 5G solutions. MediaTek has just unveiled its budget-friendly 5G chipsets with model numbers MT6885 and MT6873.

Currently, MediaTek is working hard to fill the void that has been created by Qualcomm. It is trying to bring reasonable 5G solutions to the market while Qualcomm is only focusing on the premium and mid-range segment.

Apart from this, MediaTek just recently unveiled its latest 5G chipset dubbed the Dimensity 1000. The SoC features 5G support with two carrier aggregation, 4.7Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink speeds over sub-6GHz networks. It is designed to support stand-alone and non-standalone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks as well as multi-mode support for every cellular connectivity generation from 2G to 5G.
