Govt to Pay 3 Months of Electricity Bills for Businesses Across Pakistan

The Economic Coordination Committee has approved the Chota Karobar Imdadi Package, under which the government will pay the electricity bills of small traders for three months, whenever they resume their business activities.

This was announced by Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar on Twitter.

He noted that this package will benefit 3.5 million small businesses, including from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. For those with 5KW commercial or 70 KW industrial connections, the government will pay their electricity bills for up to there months after they resume business.

This means any shop or business that has a 5-kilowatt commercial connection or an industrial connection of up to 70 KW will benefit from the package.

He said that the consumption data will be used as a benchmark adding that 95% of all commercial and 80% of all industrial connections in the country will benefit from this cash injection in their businesses.

The minister noted that the sums deposited in their bills will stay valid for utilization for up to six months. The sum will be based on actual consumption and total payments made from the meter in May, June, July 2019 period combined, he added.

However, the package is yet to be approved by the cabinet.
