PCB Resumes Operations, Lays Off a Big Chunk of Employees

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has resumed office after lockdown restrictions have eased in the country. In a statement, the cricket board said that the operations will resume partly with limited staff at the PCB headquarters only.

The PCB is yet to take the final decision on the opening of regional and other offices as there is still confusion regarding the future of lockdown and resumption of businesses. The cricket team’s next assignment is the tour to England, which the PCB has principally agreed subject to approval from the government.

It will be a partial resumption with limited staff at the headquarters to look into the day to day affairs, pending jobs, and priorities. However, the next step would be holding the training camp, according to the government’s instructions.

PCB has to formulate the SOPs for the resumption of cricket activities in the country as other cricket boards and governments are also looking for ways to resume sporting events amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Reports state that with offices reopening the PCB has laid-off employees, especially those who are not needed anymore, such as office boys and helpers. The lay-offs will mean that inactive employees from all departments will be handed dismissal letters.

Businesses throughout the country are firing their employees in such challenging times. Even those that are financially stable, such as the PCB, are finding ways to reduce spendings, and the easiest way out is to lay-off employees or pay cuts.
