Govt to Resolve Internet Issues Faced by Students

The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training has said that the government is aware of the connectivity issues and other problems faced by the students related to online learning and is committed to resolving them.

He made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting on Thursday, convened to review the issues encountered by the students from across the country.

Education and the internet are interconnected in the modern age, Shafqat said, adding that the pandemic situation has enhanced its importance.

Attended by the officials from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Ministry of Information Technology, Universal Service Fund (USF), Higher Education Commission (HEC), and Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the meeting reviews different aspects and challenges in dissemination of online education.

Issues like poor connectivity, excessive load-shedding, unavailability of the internet the areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), south Balochistan, and tribal regions came under discussion in detail.

The participants showed their commitment to resolve the connectivity related problems and discussed the introduction of cheap internet packages for students with the help of telecommunication companies.

Representatives of the Ministry of IT, PTA, and USF underscored the issues in the telecom sector and also floated different solutions.

It should be noted the Higher Education Commission (HEC) is already in talks with mobile companies for working out cheap and education-based internet packages for students. No breakthrough has been made thus far, however.
