FBR Issues Sales Tax Exemption on Import of Oxygen Gas, Cylinders & Cryogenic Tanks

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has exempted sales tax on the import of oxygen gas, cylinders, and cryogenic tanks for medical purposes, for a period of three months.

According to the SRO 649(l)/2020 issued by the FBR on August 03, 2020, in the exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub­ section (2) of section 13 of the Sales Tax Act 1990, the Federal Government has exempted the import of the said goods specified for medical purposes from sales tax.

  • Oxygen gas under PCT 2804.4000
  • Cylinders (for oxygen gas) under PCT 7311.0090
  • Cryogenic tanks (for oxygen gas) under PCT 7311.0030

The said exemption shall apply in respect of the letters of credit opened or goods declaration forms filed on or after June 23, 2020.

The FBR had issued SRO 593(I)/2020 and exempted the import of oxygen gas and oxygen gas cylinders from customs duty for three months effective from June 23, 2020.
