Official: Al-Haj FAW is Launching Bestune’s Affordable High-Tech SUVs in Pakistan

Al-Haj FAW Motors has just announced that they shall be introducing Bestune cars in Pakistan “real soon”. Bestune, formerly known as Besturn, is a subsidiary automaker owned by the parent company FAW Group.

The company was conceived back in 2006, with the intent to serve the mid-tier socio-economic segment by making cars that are affordable yet modern, comfortable, and reliable. Since then, the company has mainly been operating in the Chinese and Russian Markets, where they have garnered a decent amount of popularity.

Chinese Mazda?

The company also has a sister automaker by the name of Hongqi, which is also owned by FAW. Both companies manufacture cars based on old Mazda Sedans which is why, as per the popular opinion, the cars from both companies can be easily confused with one another. The difference is only in the badging.

Bestune, as of right now, has 8 vehicles in its product lineup, 4 of which are sedans, and the remaining 4, are Crossover SUVs.

Various teases and reports suggest that Bestune shall be making an entrance by introducing the T77 Crossover SUV in the Pakistani Market.

The T77 is a subcompact crossover SUV that was launched in November of 2018 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. Since its launch, the car has only been sold in the Chinese market.

It’s a fairly modern crossover SUV with sharp looks (very much like the Volvo SUVs of the modern days) and cutting edge technology that has reportedly been developed in collaboration with Xiaomi, one of the biggest phone companies in the world that also makes smart devices.

Prices in China

Reportedly, the car can be had in 6 variants in China and the price ranges from RMB 105,800 and RMB 138,80o in China, which is equal to a PKR 2,563,000 and PKR 3,362,000.

That’s Honda City and Toyota Yaris level prices for a bigger, more practical, and more modern car. Though nothing can be said about the built quality, reliability, and maintenance in Pakistan as of yet.

Engine Specs & Interior

In terms of engine, the car can be had with a 1.2 liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 141 horsepower, 204 newton/meters of torque, and can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

In the latest version, the buyers can opt for a 1.5-liter T-GDI turbocharged inline 4-cylinder petrol engine, sourced by Hyundai, that makes 166 horsepower and 258 Newton Meters of torque, and can be had with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

On the inside you are greeted with a high-end interior, a modern Mercedes Benz like single-screen infotainment system and instrument cluster, intelligent connectivity technologies such as Bestune radio, AI music, smart entertainment, as well as intelligent control function.

Other Features

Among other features, the SUV comes with:

  • Autonomous parking
  • Driver and passenger airbags
  • Parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Collision warning
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Hill-start assist and descent control,
  • Traction control
  • ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake-Assist (BA) Technology

Reports of a much bigger and better T99 SUV to be launched in Pakistan are also floating about, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Nevertheless, Bestune, based on the first look, shows a lot of promise in terms of its capability to turn the Pakistani automotive sector around. These affordable, yet modern cars can create healthy competition in the ‘not so fresh’ Pakistani automotive industry.
