Huawei to Announce Kirin 9000 Flagship Chipset at IFA 2020

The Chinese tech giant Huawei has recently announced that it will hold a press conference on 3rd September at the 2020 Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), a trade show for consumer electronics, to announce some of its new products.

Although the company has not officially detailed what products it plans to introduce, reports suggest that along with the Huawei Mate 40 series flagship smartphones, the company will unveil the latest Kirin 9000 flagship chipset. It will most probably be the last chipset by the company thanks to the US’s recently tightened restrictions on Huawei.

For those who don’t know, the US has put around 70 of Huawei’s affiliates on the Entity List, requiring them to have special permission from the government to carry out business. Hence, TSMC will not be conducting any more business with the Chinese company halting all HiSilicon chip production by 15th September.

The upcoming chipset, manufactured by TSMC, is built using the 5nm process and will be most probably be the world’s first 5nm mobile chipset, launching ahead of similar chips from Qualcomm and Apple.

As for the Mate 40 series, rumors and leaks suggest that the lineup will consist of three models with model numbers OCE-AN00, NOH-AN00, and NOP-AN00. The Mate 40 will sport a 6.5-inch FHD+ display while the Pro model will feature a 6.78-inch QHD+ screen. Other details regarding the Smartphones have not been revealed yet.
