Pillion Riding Banned in Islamabad From Muharram 8 to 10

As part of security measurements, pillion riding on motorcycles will be banned in Islamabad during the 8th, 9th, and 10th Muharram to avoid any violence.

A notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat on Friday stated,

It has been brought to my knowledge that certain pillion riders are likely to resort to violence and acts of sabotage aimed at disrupting peace and tranquility causing damage to public life and property during the forthcoming Muharram-ul-Haram.

The police in the twin-cities have presented their plans to ensure security and traffic management during the processions of Muharram. According to the details provided by the police, COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been kept in mind while preparing their plans.

Islamabad Traffic Police has decided to deploy more than 600 officers all over the Capital in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and avoid inconveniencing the commuters.

Meanwhile, all zonal Superintendents (SP’s) of Islamabad Police have requested the religious leaders to promote religious harmony and comply with the SOPs of COVID-19 provided by the government.

The processions are carried out throughout the country on 9th and 10th Muharram. Traditionally, the main processions are carried out on 9th Muharram in Islamabad and on 10th Muharram in Rawalpindi. Youm-e-Ashura will be observed on 30th August all over the country.
