Rain in Karachi Broke All Records During the Last 24 Hours


Continuous rainfall in the latest spell of monsoon rains in Karachi has broken all previous records, the Meteorological Department said.

According to the Met Office, the port city has never witnessed more than 223 millimeters of rain in a single day (24 hours) to date. However, the same amount of downpour was recorded in less than 12 hours on Thursday.


Sindh Announces Holiday After Continuous Rain

The weather department said that it has never rained so much in the month of August. However, this time, the city has seen as much as 616 millimeters of rainfall in the first 27 days of August. Moreover, the ongoing monsoon season is wettest in the history of Karachi.

The Met Office says that there has been a slight decrease in the intensity of the monsoon series, causing thunderstorms and torrential rains in the city.


Torrential Rains Disturb PIA’s Flight Operations

According to recent meteorological observations and maps, the low-pressure area has shifted towards northeastern and central Sindh.

In this context, the possibility of heavy rain with thunder has now turned into intermittent moderate rain till Monday morning.

Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has announced a holiday on Friday, in order to curb damages caused by heavy rain. The CM has advised people to stay at home and avoid leaving houses unnecessarily.
