US Bars Its Citizens in Pakistan from Traveling Via Pakistani Airlines

The US Embassy in Islamabad has issued a new “Travel Alert” for the US citizens living in Pakistan, barring them from traveling in Pakistani airlines.

The US embassy has also advised its citizens to get themselves registered in a travel safety program and watch local news channels for updates before traveling through Pakistani airlines.

Moreover, the embassy officials have also been prohibited from traveling through Pakistani airlines without permission.

Torrential Rains Disturb PIA’s Flight Operations

This new alert came after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) downgraded Pakistan to category two, saying that Pakistani carriers are not up to international standards.

The FAA’s action followed the issue of dubious licenses. The Aviation Minister, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, announced on the floor of the Parliament that 262 pilots have dubious licenses and that all of them have been grounded until further investigations.

The inquiry which was initiated in February 2019 showed that 262 pilots did not give the exam themselves and asked someone else to appear on their behalf.

PIA Will Appeal to European Flight Safety Agency to Lift The Ban

PIA and Pakistani pilots who received their licenses from CAA were stopped from entering Europe, the US, and the UK soon after the aviation minister’s statement.

Meanwhile, the Aviation Division has stepped up the inquiry against the pilots and the CAA officials involved in the dubious license case. So far, 63 PIA employees, including 28 pilots have been terminated for their connection with the scandal.
