Head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, has said that the Pakistan team was on a decline, despite being number 1 in T20I cricket at the time when he took over.
Pakistan were No.1 but if you recall the time I took over they were already on a losing streak. They lost in South Africa and one T20I against England.
Explaining the reason why Pakistan was off-color during that period, Misbah said that main contributors like Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, and Shadab Khan’s performances were not up to the mark.
Here’s how Misbah’s team has performed ever since he took over in September last year:
Talking about firepower in T20 cricket, Misbah said that the team is heading in the right direction.
The sort of cricket we are playing right now is exactly what we are looking at. Especially in T20 cricket, there were questions about not having enough firepower and not matching the level of cricket being played in the world. But scoring 190 plus twice against England in English conditions is a sign that we are heading in the right direction.
The former captain believed that patience is the key when it comes to young fast bowlers, adding that they will improve with each game. “Our overall vision is to go towards youngsters, get long-term solutions, develop our team for a longer period of time, get the right resources and invest in them”, Misbah said.
Pakistan stayed at the top of T20I rankings for nearly two years from January 2018, however, they are now at number 4 following a number of series losses. In Tests, Pakistan is ranked at 7th, the same as they were when Misbah took charge.
