It also advised the US Citizens to be aware of their surroundings while traveling within these sectors especially during visits to markets, banks, and ATMs.

In response, a spokesperson for the ICT Police has said that the alert issued by the US Embassy is based on nothing but speculations as the department has not documented any such increase in street crimes in the sectors mentioned in the alert.

The crime rate in the capital from January to September 2020 has declined by 33% in comparison to the same period in 2019, the spokesperson added.

Moreover, the World Crime Index 2020 Mid-Year has declared Islamabad safer than 56 out of 57 US cities on the list.
