The aircraft acquired by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on lease will be returned next year, as their lease expires. A committee has been formed to terminate the lease of 6 Airbus 320 aircraft. PIA Chief Engineer Najeeb Ahmed has issued a notification in this regard.
As per sources familiar with the development, the first out of six aircraft will be returned in March 2021, while the last plane will be returned in August next year.

The PIA has set up an 11-member committee headed by Syed Majid Humail from the Engineering and Maintenance Department. The committee includes engineers Salahuddin Azhar, Salman Ahmed, Amjad Hanif, Musawar Abbas, Bakht Azam, Sadia Moin, Ahmar Abbas, Mujeeb Sheikh, and Wali Sohaib.
The committee will carry out a detailed inspection of the leased aircrafts next year, and all concerned departments will be bound to provide information to the committee.

The inquiry committee will compile a report based on the information from aircraft and other sources.
PIA spokesperson has said that the aircraft’s lease is a complicated process, and any decision on extension and cancellation of tenders depends upon the investigation.
The national airline is bound by international law to return the plane in the same condition in which it was obtained.
