Qualcomm Applies For a License to Supply Hardware to Huawei

Companies all over the world have been trying to resume their business with Huawei ever since the US ban was put into place. Due to these restrictions, the Chinese company has run out of its chip supply, which is why one of the world’s leading chipmakers, Qualcomm, has applied for a license to supply chips to Huawei.

This was confirmed by Qualcomm’s CEO Steven Mollenkopf while he was commenting on the company’s financial performance in 2020. It is now confirmed that Qualcomm has applied for the license, but it has not been granted yet.

In the past few weeks, several major companies including Intel, AMD, Sony, and others have received a green light from the US government to continue business with Huawei. This is a major development for the Chinese phone maker as it is currently looking at different options to keep its business afloat amid the restrictions.

Nearly 300 companies have applied for this special license and nearly a third of these companies have been granted a license. According to recent reports, these companies are only being provided a license as long as they are not supplying hardware to support Huawei’s 5G business.

Apart from Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics is also waiting for approval.
