Govt Clarifies After Multiple Media Reports Claim PTV is Being Privatized

The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shibli Faraz, has firmly rejected reports that the government is preparing to privatize Pakistan Television (PTV).

The rumour was rife on Thursday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has prepared a road map to privatize the national television organization. A faction of the media reported via ‘inside sources’ that the federal cabinet has received a summary of the issue.

However, the government machinery swung into action and debunked the spurious reports.

The Minister for Information told a private news channel that no such idea had been presented before the cabinet. He termed the reports as ‘fabricated’ and ‘baseless’, noting that the government is focusing on restructuring the channel.

“A new board of directors will be hired soon to oversee PTV’s operations. We are working on the channel’s managerial structure,” he said.

Faraz maintained that the proposal had never been discussed during his term as the Minister for Information. “I have been a minister for the last eight months and never have we ever discussed the idea,” he clarified.

Shibli Faraz also denied reports regarding the sale of the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, New York.
