Babar Azam has said that the presence of former captains in the squad will help the team in winning crucial matches. He said that the selection of Azhar Ali and Sarfaraz Ahmed in the Pakistan squad for the tour of New Zealand will give confidence to the team and will help him as a captain.
Babar Azam replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of the limited overs side last year. Following Pakistan’s Test series loss to England in the summer, PCB decided to replace Azhar Ali as captain as well, naming Babar Azam as the captain for all three formats.
Their presence is of importance for the team as it helps the youngsters. As I recall my experience as a player, I played with senior players like Azhar Ali, Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed and I gained confidence from it.
Babar said that former captains advise him in crunch moments and it helps Babar to make decisions. Their advice comes in handy when he is struggling to find solutions on the pitch, he added.
Babar will captain the Test side for the first time when Pakistan take on New Zealand in a few weeks. The three-match T20I series and two-match Test series is set to start from 18th December.
