UK’s apex drug regulatory body, Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA), on Wednesday, issued an advisory for people with a history of significant allergic reactions, recommending them not to get vaccinated by the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
MHRA advisory comes a day after two NHS workers, with a history of serious allergies, experienced severe allergic reactions to the m-RNA-based Pfizer vaccine.

While both NHS workers are recovering now, doctors have claimed that they had suffered an anaphylactoid reaction after getting administered with the vaccine. An anaphylactoid reaction normally involves a skin rash, breathlessness, and sometimes a drop in blood pressure.
CEO MHRA, Dr. June Raine, has said the agency’s decision is the only right step to take at this moment.
Terming the advisory as only a precautionary measure, MD NHS England, Professor Stephen Powis, said this is common with new vaccines.

Last week, MHRA had approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for mass vaccination campaigns across the UK after declaring it safe and effective on the basis of findings of the vaccine’s clinical trials.
