Google Patents a New Fitness Tracker With No Display

Last month, Google announced that it would be acquiring the American consumer electronics and fitness company Fitbit for $2.1 billion. The acquisition is still in process, but Google has already published a patent for a fitness tracker of its own. We are unsure if the described tracker will end up as a consumer product, but it is a step in the right direction.

The patent was filed with the United States Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO) and recently published. It reveals an Amazon Halo-like fitness tracker that does not come with a display. Hence, users have to rely on their Smartphones to find out the readings.

The images show that the strap of the wearable comes with a built-in tracker. Hence, the color of the strap will not be interchangeable. Moreover, the device seems more of a subscription service, just like the Amazon Halo.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the patent does not reveal any details, but the images show that there are pogo pins near a sensor that appears to be for heart-rate monitoring. Hence, it will be charged over a magnetic charger.

Google has not revealed anything about its plans regarding a fitness wearable. The company will perhaps share more information after the acquisition is complete.
