KP Govt Launches Human Rights Action Plan

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) launched the Human Rights Action Plan (HRAP) on Tuesday to improve the human rights protection system in the province.

The plan has been developed under the National Human Rights Action Plan in collaboration with the non-governmental organization, Democracy Reporting International (DRI).

While addressing the launch event in Peshawar, the Provincial Minister for Law and Human Rights, Sultan Muhammad Khan, said that the HRAP had been developed in collaboration with stakeholders.

“The HRAP is a great achievement of the provincial government that will enrich the protection of human rights,” he announced.

The minister also revealed that their government is in the process of making legislation to protect human rights in general and women’s rights in particular.

Additionally, the provincial human rights directorate has established a database on human rights.

The Program Coordinator of Blue Veins, Qamar Naseem, said that even though there is hope that the implementation of the HRAP will improve the situation in KP, the previous plans, committees, and commissions of the previous governments have been short-lived.

He advised the government to set up child units in all the districts of the province and to work on the Child Marriage Restraint bill.
