Khalti Lake Turns into a Playground as GB Records -17 °C Temperature

Khalti Lake in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizar district has completely frozen after witnessing a temperature of -17 °C over the last 24 hours.

It is a vital source of clean water for the locals and is inhabited by an abundance of trout, which is a local favorite.

Located approximately 2,217m above sea level, the crystallization of the serene lake has dented people’s hopes for having trout for dinner again. Nonetheless, it has made for a lively playground for children to skate on.

Nestled in Gupis Valley, Khalti is also a reservoir for the surrounding glaciers that make its waters extremely cold. It usually freezes during the winter, following which the locals make a playground out of it.
