Here’s What Disappointed Misbah the Most in 2020

Misbah-ul-Haq’s first full year as the Head Coach of Pakistan was full of ups and downs. Pakistan was one of the few cricketing nations that played a considerable amount of cricket in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Considered the most unpredictable team in the world, Pakistan truly reflected that tag in the past year. Pakistan played five Test matches in the past year, winning one, losing two, and drawing two. Their T20I record was similar as well. Pakistan played ten T20Is in the year, winning seven and losing three. Pakistan only played three ODIs throughout the year, winning two and losing one.

It is safe to say that Misbah’s tenure has been disappointing so far, especially considering the control he had over the team due to his dual role as head coach and chief selector.

Misbah himself recently spoke about his biggest disappointment in 2020. “From a personal point of view, the biggest disappointment of 2020 was the tour of England, where we let victory at Old Trafford slip out of our grasps. Then, rain thwarted our chances of going 1-0 up in the series, but I am glad we then bounced back strongly in the third match to level the T20I series.”

The first Test match between Pakistan and England at Manchester was a bitter pill to swallow for the Pakistan team and their fans. Despite dominating almost the entire match, it slipped away from them in just one session. England all-rounder, Chris Woakes, and wicket-keeper, Jos Buttler, put on a partnership of 139 for the sixth wicket in the final innings of the match to shift the match in England’s favor.

Misbah-ul-Haq added that he is hopeful that the new year will be a prosperous one for the Pakistan cricket team. He said that management is learning from their mistakes and will rectify the mistakes they made in 2020. He concluded that Pakistan has an exciting pool of young players, and they will help the team in achieving positive results.
