LG Getting Ready to Launch Transparent OLED TVs for Bedrooms

Tech giants like Xiaomi and Samsung have been working on transparent TVs for a while now. Last year, Xiaomi launched its Mi TV LUX, the world’s first transparent OLED TV set to be mass-produced. Now, LG Display has announced that it is working on developing an invisible TV for bedrooms.

The company has been trying to make transparent OLED panel tech more feasible for consumers. In its attempt to do so, it has unveiled a possible application of the transparent displays with its “Smart Bed” concept. The product will reportedly use a 55-inch transparent screen to function as a TV that will turn invisible when not in use.

The OLED display will be housed on the foot of the bed, and users would simply have to press a button to convert the transparent surface into a Television. According to LG, the TV will use cinematic sound to output audio without requiring separate external speakers.

LG also plans on using the same tech for other use cases that include transparent OLED screen being used in restaurants to allow customers to see their meals being prepared by the chef and on subway trains where they could double as screens and windows.

The company further explained that the 55-inch transparent OLED panel would thrive on a high 40 percent transparency level compared to the 10 percent found in LCD screens. In the future, they believe that these screens can replace windows in smart homes or even smart driving cars.
