KP to Conduct Special Drive for COVID-19 SOPs in Tribal Areas

The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has decided to conduct a week-long special drive for the implementation of COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the tribal region in consideration of the rising number of coronavirus cases.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Home Secretary, Ikramullah Khan, that was attended by the divisional commissioners and regional police officers via video link.

The divisional commissioners have been directed to conduct awareness campaigns and perform a specific task each day to ensure the implementation of SOPs. These tasks will be performed with the cooperation of hotel owners, transporters, civil society members, religious scholars, and all stakeholders.

On the third day of the awareness week campaign, after consultations with concerned stakeholders, and seminars for awareness, action will be taken against the restaurants that have violated the SOPs. Violators will be heavily fined and shopping malls and major domestic markets will be sealed.

On the fourth day, awareness pamphlets, masks, sanitizers, and gloves will be distributed among the people.

On Friday (the fifth day of the awareness week), sermons and khutbas will be given in the mosques to inform the masses of the pandemic protocols.

On the last day of the drive, former local bodies officials and political leaders will talk to the people about the importance of the SOPs.

The authorities will distribute at least 1000 masks for free in each district throughout this week, and the commissioners will submit daily reports to the Chief Secretary’s Office by 5 PM.
