Pakistani Bowlers Break Records For Extras Against New Zealand

Pakistan has a history of producing top quality fast bowlers and has been widely regarded as one of the top fast bowling nations. However, those days are long gone with the cricketing fraternity calling the current Pakistan fast bowling unit one of the worst they have ever seen.

The current fast bowling line-up of Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Abbas, Naseem Shah, and Faheem Ashraf has given a dismal performance in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand. Although they have not been helped by poor fielding, the bowlers have failed to trouble the Kiwi batsmen regularly.

New Zealand has scored 431, 180/5 declared, and 659/6 declared in the three innings they have played so far in the series. New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson, has scored one century and one double century in the three innings so far, with Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell scoring centuries as well.

However, the most shocking thing in New Zealand’s innings has been the number of extras. 64 extras were conceded by Pakistan, which subsequently was New Zealand’s fourth-highest run-scorer in the innings.

The innings included 17 wides, which is the most number of wides bowled by Pakistan in an innings in history. The previous record was 15 wides. Overall, Pakistan has bowled 23 wides in the two-Test match series.

Pakistan bowlers have also bowled 19 no-balls in the series, 16 of which have been bowled by the young pacer, Naseem Shah.

With South Africa scheduled to tour the country shortly, the new chief selector will be looking to make some changes to bring some potency to the bowling attack.
