Wasim Akram Reveals Pakistan’s Sports Find of the Year

Former cricketer, Wasim Akram, believes Omar Khalid, the young golf sensation, is ‘Pakistan sports find of the year.’ Omar Khalid created history by becoming the youngest player in history to win the National Amateur Golf Championship. The 16-year old golfer won the championship last week after defeating his opponents comfortably by a margin of five strokes.

Akram was amazed at the youngster’s talent and was delighted when he won the most prestigious golf tournament. Akram played a round of golf with Omar at Defense Authority Country and Golf Club on Thursday and took to Twitter to express his appreciation for the youngster.

“It is not easy for a young boy of Omar’s age to win a national title and more so in a tough sport like golf where a player takes a long time to mature. That makes Omar’s victory really important for Pakistan sports,” Akram remarked.

“If you ask me I would say that Omar Khalid is [the] find of the year not just for Pakistan golf but for Pakistan sports,” Akram said.

Akram added that Pakistan should also start to focus on sports other than cricket. He opined that, as a nation, Pakistan has spent all the major resources on cricket while ignoring amazing talents in other sports. He added that Omar’s success at the national level is proof that Pakistan possesses talent in other sports as well.

Akram said that such talents require the right support from the authorities to become world-beaters.
