According to details, the new COVID-19 treatment has been developed at the Southampton University Hospital and is being produced by the Southampton-based biotech company, Synairgen.

The researchers claim that the new treatment stimulates the immune system to fight the Coronavirus and reduces the chances of developing a serious infection by 80%.

The new treatment costs around £2,000.

How does it work?

Interferon beta warns the body to expect a viral attack as it is the body’s first line of defense against pathogens.

After entering the body, the Coronavirus immediately stops its production in a bid to infect the immune system. The new treatment delivers interferon beta directly to the lungs through a nebulizer in the form of an aerosol.

Resultantly, the dose of protein will generate a strong immune anti-viral response after getting infected with Coronavirus, even in individuals with weaker immune systems.

Patients with asthma and other chronic lung conditions can comfortably tolerate the treatment as well.
