South African Captain Wary of Strong Pakistan After Babar’s Return

South African captain, Quinton de Kock, believes that Babar Azam is one of the best players in the world, and his performances have constantly improved over the past few years. de Kock said that Pakistan will be a completely different side with Babar in the team and will be very difficult opponents in their home conditions.

South African team arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for a two-match Test series and three-match T20I series starting from 26th January. de Kock spoke about the tour in a virtual press conference held yesterday.

de Kock said that Pakistan would be looking to bounce back from their disappointing tour of New Zealand, and Babar’s inclusion will further strengthen the team. He added that Pakistan is a dangerous opponent in their home conditions, so South Africa will have to perform at their best to get a positive result in the series.

The wicket-keeper batsman talked about the team combination of South Africa and said they feel confident with their preparations and their squad, keeping in mind the playing conditions in Pakistan.

“We know that spinners and reverse swing play a big part in the sub-continent, but we are making sure that we have got all our bases covered in terms of preparation,” he said.

de Kock said that the South African touring party was concerned with the security situation in Pakistan before arriving in the country but feel much more comfortable and calm after experiencing the security provided for them. He added that they could focus on their cricket without having any pressure.

“It looks like all corners are checked, all bases covered, touch wood. At the moment, we feel safe. There is a lot of security, so now we are just worrying about cricket,” he concluded.
