Rashid Latif Was Chosen as Head Coach and Chief Selector Before Misbah

Former wicket-keeper, Rashid Latif, claimed that he was chosen as the head coach and chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team before the appointment of the current head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq.

Latif said that negotiations with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO, Wasim Khan, were successful and things looked all but confirmed before PCB Chairman, Ehsan Mani, refused to appoint him.

Latif said that the discussions went smoothly with Wasim Khan, but maybe Mani was not satisfied with the monetary aspects of the appointment.

Misbah-ul-Haq was appointed as both the head coach and chief selector instead of Latif. Misbah has since resigned from the post of national team chief selector, citing workload issues as the problem. Misbah has also been under fire as the head coach, with Pakistan failing to impress recently, having lost to New Zealand, and losing an ODI against Zimbabwe at home.

Latif said that his relationship with PCB is healthy, and he is a part of the cricketing system, so he will never be out of contact. Latif was hesitant to reveal too many details and said that there are many things that he has witnessed, both pre and post-retirement, that he cannot disclose to the public.

Before Misbah’s appointment, the former fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar, and TV personality, Dr. Nauman Niaz, had spoken about Latif on the verge of getting the dual role, but it failed to materialize.
