In addition to this, a chunk of netizens in Pakistan was curious about making their lifestyle eco-friendly and searched about how they could add more reusable products to their daily lives. A large percentage of people also looked up information about how to ramp up the charity, how to prevent diseases, and how gender equality works.

The report further details that search for Gender equality increased by 40%, while those for mental health support, adding more reusable products, and charity increased by 100%, 128%, and 122%, respectively.

Talking about these trends, Google’s industry head for South Asia and the Asia Pacific regions, Faraz Azhar, noted,

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted people’s lives in fundamental ways and changed how we live our lives significantly. It also created the desire for us to connect to our wider community and give back – as witnessed by the 41% increase in searches for ‘sadaqah’.

Google’s country head for Customer Solutions Sales in South Asia, Aamir Altaf, opined that,

In a year of historic challenges, happiness and joy have been very welcome. Consumers are embracing the brands that spark joy and create a safe space for them to take a break. Take gaming, for example. We saw an increase of 35% searches for ‘online games’ vs. a 15% decline during the same period last year.

The searches clearly show how trends for people have changed. They are trying to be more productive and are actually working on things that would make the world a better place. Parents, of course, had a lot of children-related worries.
