Nvidia Made $5 Billion During The GPU Shortage

Nvidia recently published its Q4 2021 earnings report revealing a record $5 billion in revenue, which is up 61 percent year-over-year. This comes as a surprise since the company’s GPUs have been in extremely low supply.

Last year, the global semiconductor shortage started as consumers stocked up on personal computers and other electronics during the Covid-19 pandemic. What started as a huge demand for consumer electronics slowly saturated several supply chains worldwide including smartphones and cars.

As a result, many companies cited shortages with effects ranging from part shortages for smartphones to the incredibly hard-to-find CPUs and GPUs. Nvidia was one of the most affected amidst all this. The company was scrambling between developing new GPUs and fulfilling the ever-growing demands. It even had to bring back the older GeForce RTX 2060 and GTX 1050 Ti cards to cope with the demand.

However, based on the report published, things turned out pretty well for the company. What’s more impressive is that Nvidia expects to make another $5 billion in revenue during Q1 2022. This is even surprising as the Q1 is generally slower than other quarters even for the biggest tech companies.

As far as the GPU shortage is concerned, Nvidia reiterated that sparse supply will continue through the next quarter but these factors have most likely been incorporated into the revenue prediction.

The company has high hopes that most of the predicted revenue will come from the gaming market, even though the segment is currently having the toughest time.
