Islamabad has been included among the first 500 cities in Bloomberg’s Global Mayors’ Challenge Programme 2021, according to a news published recently.
The programme is organized on an annual basis by the US-based Bloomberg Cities Network, encompassing metropolitan cities from around the world.

After selecting the cities, the network observes each city based on criteria of vision, impact, implementation, and transferability. Its other benchmarks include health, inclusive growth, climate, and governance.
The administrator of the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI), Syeda Shafaq Hashmi, is spearheading efforts locally by informing the programme’s vendors about the MCI’s recurring initiatives. She is optimistic that the MCI’s innovative idea of improving street economy will find favor with the judges at the Global Mayors’ Challenge.
