Meizu 18 and 18 Pro Go Official With Snapdragon 888 and 120Hz AMOLED Displays

Meizu’s all-new 18 series of phones have become official in China today with top-tier specifications, but cheaper price tags. Both phones are powered by Snapdragon 888 120Hz displays and 2K screen resolution.

Design and Display

Meizu 18 Pro is the bigger one out of the two with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display featuring a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and 1440p (2k) screen resolution. The screen is curved on all four sides and features an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor underneath.

The large module on the back comes with four cameras and an LED flash.

The standard Meizu 18 has a smaller 6.2-inch display, but the rest of the specifications are all the same.

Internals and Storage

Internal specifications are also identical on the two phones. The main chipset is the 5nm flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1. Of course, there are also cheaper memory configurations but there is no SD card slot.

On the software front, you get Android 11 with Meizu’s Flyme OS 9 on top.

Camera configuration is where the two phones mostly differ. The higher-end model has four cameras on the back including a 50MP main camera, an 8MP telephoto, a 32MP ultrawide, and a TOF sensor. The standard Meizu 18 has a higher resolution 64MP main camera, but only three lenses in total. The other two cameras include a 16MP ultrawide and an 8MP telephoto zoom lens.

Meizu 18 can record 4K 60 FPS clips, but the 18 Pro can manage to 8K video recording.

Battery and Pricing

There are notable differences in terms of battery specs as well. The 18 Pro gets a bigger 4,500 mAh cell paired with 40W fast charging, 40W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. The base model has a smaller 4,000 mAh battery with support for 36W wired fast charging only.

Meizu 18 will be available for a starting price of $680 and the 18 Pro will cost $773 for the base memory configuration. Both will be available in Blue, White, and Gray color options.
