Peugeot 2008 Test Mule SUV Spotted in Pakistan

The rising demand for crossover SUVs in Pakistan has warranted the attention of the other automakers that are yet to break into the market, and Peugeot appears to be planning to debut its new crossover SUV here.

An auto enthusiast recently photographed what possibly was a Peugeot 2008 test-mule on the roads of Karachi. 2008 is a subcompact crossover SUV by the French automaker Peugeot and goes up against the Nissan Juke, the Toyota CH-R, the Honda Vezel/HR-V, the Kia Niro, and the Hyundai Kona.

In the international market, the Peugeot 2008 is available with multiple powertrains. It comes with three variants of the same 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine with power outputs of 101 hp, 130 hp, and 155 hp (Peugeot 2008 GT only). These can be mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Other than that it also comes in a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 110 hp and 250 Nm of torque and can be mated to the same gearbox options. Both these engines are also available as hybrids – depending on the variants.

The vehicle is also available in the international markets with a 100 kW all-electric powertrain that is powered by a 50 kWh battery pack which makes 136 hp and 190 Nm of torque.

Last year, Lucky Motors Ltd. had signed an expression of interest (EoI) and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Groupe PSA of France, according to which Lucky Motors would assemble, manufacture, market, distribute, and sell PSA passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Pakistan.

A European SUV has reportedly been brought to Pakistan by Lucky Motors to be tested. No official details on the vehicle have been released for Pakistan yet, but it is safe to say that the vehicle will be a fine addition to the already stacked local crossover-SUV market.
