These are Most Expensive Cities Based on Gap Between Market & Approved Rates

Karachi is the most expensive city for consumers because of the outrageous price gap that exists between the market prices of essential food items and the rates fixed by the district administration.

According to the National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC), the actual market prices of essential food items in Karachi are 94.81% higher than the rates approved by the district administration.

Larkana is the second most expensive city for consumers with a 49.54% gap in market prices and DC rates. Larkana is followed by Sukkur with a 38.77% gap in market prices and DC rates.

Moreover, the market prices and DC rates in Quetta differ by 30.81%, by 28.34% in Hyderabad, and by 21.65% in Multan.

The gap between the market prices and DC rates in Islamabad is 19.19%, 17.09% in Peshawar, 11.84% in Rawalpindi, and 10.53% in Lahore.

Bahawalpur is the least expensive city for consumers because the actual market prices of essential food items are only 9.25% higher than the rates approved by the district administration.

Note that the price gaps are based on the Decision Support System for Inflation (DSSI) that has been developed by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to provide information on essential commodity prices to the NPMC, federal ministries, provincial governments, and district administrations.
