The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has announced the Matriculation and Intermediate examinations across the country will be conducted as planned.

He said this while addressing a press conference in Islamabad after chairing an inter-provincial meeting of the education and health ministers to review the COVID-19 situation across the country and take a decision on the closure of schools.

Shafqat Mahmood said that it has been decided that the board examinations for Classes IX, X, XI, and XII will be held as per the schedule that was previously announced by the provincial governments and boards.

He maintained that the attendees of the meeting had decided to keep all the educational institutions in the districts with high coronavirus positivity rates closed until 11 April.

In light of this decision, all the educational institutions in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura will remain closed until 11 April, and the provincial governments will be responsible for the temporary closure of the schools in the hotspots.

Minister Mahmood added that he will hold a meeting with the Cambridge exam board to see whether its examinations can be postponed.
