According to sources, former captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, is set to make a comeback to the ODI starting XI in the upcoming series against South Africa. Sarfaraz is likely to be the wicket-keeper of the side, while Mohammad Rizwan will play as a batsman.

Sarfaraz last played an ODI in 2019 against Sri Lanka where he captained the side to a five-wicket victory, however, he was replaced as captain of the ODI side after the conclusion of the series.

Sources have revealed that the Pakistan team management is considering playing Sarfaraz Ahmed at number five, while Rizwan will bat at number four. Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman are likely to open the innings for the national side. As a result, both Haider Ali and Asif Ali are likely to sit out.

Sarfaraz has been in terrific form recently. He was the fifth-highest run-scorer in the PSL 6 before it was postponed, scoring 185 runs at an average of 37.00 and a strike rate of 146.82 in 5 matches. He also scored two half-centuries in the tournament.

Danish Aziz is also expected to make his debut for the side at number six. Aziz has been in a rich vein of form, scoring a half-century and a century in his last four list-A innings. Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan will be the two all-rounders in the starting line-up.
