Education Minister Announces Decision on Closure of Universities

The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has announced that the universities in the coronavirus-hit districts will remain closed until 28 April 2021. However, the online classes will continue in the closed universities.

All the other public and private universities will continue their academic activities as usual.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Tuesday, which was led by the Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar.

Among its other significant decisions, the NCOC has decided to close schools until 28 April for classes 1 to 8 in the COVID-19 hotspots. However, the schools will reopen for classes 9 to 12 all over the country from 19 April onward.

Moreover, all the board examinations will be conducted as planned, starting from the third week of May.

The O-Level and A-Level examinations will also be conducted as per schedule under strict COVID-19 SOPs. The minister affirmed that no student who appears in either national or international board exams would be promoted without taking examinations.
