Although Sarfaraz made his international debut in 2007, he was not the first-choice wicket-keeper of the side, with the likes of Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, and Adnan Akmal all ahead of him in the pecking order. With his exceptional form and the deterioration of the other three, Sarfaraz established himself as a regular in 2014.
Sarfaraz was a mainstay on the national side in all three formats and was appointed captain until he was dropped from the team in 2019 due to poor form. The competition between him and Mohammad Rizwan has been a blessing in disguise for the Men in Green ever since.
