Shah Mahmood Reveals When COVID-19 Vaccine Will Reach Pakistan Under GAVI


Pakistan is set to receive 15 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under COVAX, a global initiative aimed at equitable access to Coronavirus vaccines led by GAVI, Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has confirmed.

Taking to Twitter after meeting with his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, Qureshi penned that 15 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will reach Pakistan in May.

Pakistani Foreign Minister, along with a delegation of top diplomats, arrived in Germany on Sunday for a three-day official visit to celebrate 70 years of bilateral diplomatic relations.

During a delegation-level meeting on Monday, both German and Pakistani foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations and issues of regional and global importance, including the situation in Afghanistan.

Both dignitaries agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation by increasing collaboration in the sectors of renewable energy, agriculture, health, education, climate change, infrastructure, and defense.

Germany remains the biggest trading partner of Pakistan in the European Union and the recent visit of the Pakistani Foreign Minister is part of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries. German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, had visited Pakistan in March 2019.

Germany is also home to more than 100,000 Pakistani expats who are central to the development of both countries. Qureshi will meet with the members of the expat community and business leaders on the final day of his visit.
