ICC Nominates Babar Azam & Fakhar Zaman for Player of the Month Award

Pakistan batsmen, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam are among the three players nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for April. ICC player of the month award recognizes the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket.

Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, had a magnificent tour of South Africa, scoring heavily in the ODI and the T20I series. Babar captained Pakistan to a historic 2-1 series win in South Africa, scoring 103 in the first ODI and 94 runs in the third ODI, winning man of the match awards in both matches. His magnificent performances helped him climb to the number one spot in ICC ODI rankings, surpassing Indian captain, Virat Kohli.

He played seven T20Is in April, four against South Africa and three against Zimbabwe. He captained the team to victories in both the series, scoring 305 runs at an average of 43.75 in the seven matches, including his first T20I century in the third T20I against South Africa.

Fakhar Zaman was in magnificent touch as well. He scored two consecutive centuries in the ODI series against South Africa, including an unbelievable innings of 193 in the run chase in the second ODI. He scored 302 runs at an average of 100.66 in the three-match ODI series. His brilliant display with the bat saw him win the player of the series award, helping him move to his career-best number seven spot in ICC ODI batsman rankings.

Fakhar had an unimpressive outing in the T20Is, scoring 110 runs at an average of 22.00 in the six matches he played in the month of April.

Nepal’s batsman, Kushal Bhurtel, is the third nominee for the award, having scored three consecutive half-centuries in the tri-series against Netherlands and Malaysia.
