Misbah Hints at Bringing Back Senior Players for England Tour

Pakistan head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, has hinted at the possibility of including discarded senior players for the team’s limited-overs tour of England in July. Misbah said that the upcoming tour of England would be Pakistan’s last chance to try new combinations before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup. Hence, every player that could provide value to the team will be under consideration.

The likes of Shoaib Malik, Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim, and Haris Sohail are a few of the high-profile players that have not been selected for the national team over the past few series, and by the looks of it, they will be making a comeback to the limited-overs side in the upcoming tour.

While talking to the media via a virtual press conference, Misbah said,

The tour of England would not be easy, and the option of bringing back seniors would also come under consideration. We are just concerned about our middle-order in white-ball cricket. We have to do something in that regard.

Pakistan’s fragile middle-order was on display in the limited-overs tour of South Africa and the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, with Asif Ali, Danish Aziz, and Haider Ali failing terribly.

Misbah believes that any cricketer who is fit and can provide value to the team will be under consideration, with age not playing a factor in the selection process. “Despite [being] overage, if a player is fit, he can play Test cricket. Older players must be given a chance to play as performances, fitness, and requirement of the team matter, not the age,” he said.

Pakistan is set to tour England for a three-match ODI and a three-match T20I series, scheduled to begin from 8 July. England will return the favor and tour Pakistan for a historic two-match T20I series in early October.
