Legendary batsman, Mohammad Yousuf, has lauded the impressive performance of middle-order batsman, Saud Shakeel, as he scored his maiden ODI half-century in the second ODI against England. Yousuf said that he is really impressed with the hard-working nature of the batsmen and praised his immaculate technique.
Saud, playing in his second ODI, top-scored for Pakistan, scoring 56 runs off 77 balls, but he was unable to take the team to victory as the Men in Green suffered a 52 run loss.
“He is a hard-working cricketer who wants to succeed and has a real desire to do well. He has potential but what he needs is some fine-tuning which is also something that a lot of players need. These are the sort of minor adjustments that I work on with these boys which can make a lot of difference. But at the end of the day, it’s all about how much desire these cricketers have to learn and how much hunger they have to succeed, as that is vital to their performance and eventual success,” Yousuf said.
The middle-order maestro labeled Saud’s cover-drive as one of the best cover-drives he has ever seen. Yousuf said that one of Saud’s most impressive attributes is his technique and that he is really impressed with the way he tackled the English bowling where other Pakistani batsmen failed.
Yousuf said that his main focus as the batting coach at the National High Performance Center (NHPC) is to work on the technique and technical ability of the batsmen. He said that technique is the only thing that will help dig a batsman out of a rough patch, a pressure situation, or any troubling situation.
