“In case of an extraordinary situation, the government will act accordingly,” he said, and added that the government has changed the timings for all the schools in order to avoid the intense weather at noon.

“From Monday, schools will open from 700 am to 11:30 am due to the ongoing heatwave.”

Several students in Islamabad, Lahore, and Sialkot had fainted due to the extreme heat, and some had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The incidents had forced the government to alter the school timings.

“Let them give exams and we will give them vacations. It is wrong to promote students without examinations for two consecutive years,” Raas explained.

He maintained that the curricula had been reduced to adjust the academic losses that the students had incurred due to the closure of schools during the third outbreak of the coronavirus. Furthermore, the examinations will only be for elective subjects.
