Punjab Govt to Develop Asia’s Largest Forest in Lahore

Lahore will soon have one of the largest forests in Asia as the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has partnered with the concerned divisions of the provincial government to plant saplings at 51 locations across the metropolis.

Updates on this development were shared by the Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab Asif Mahmood at a press conference at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore.

Discussing the developments with reporters, he said that saplings of the Miyawaki species have been planted in 51 areas in Lahore in addition to the impressive 1.1 million that have already been sown by the provincial government. He added that 500,000 more tree saplings and 11 Miyawaki forests will be grafted across various areas in Lahore during the monsoon.

The Miyawaki method is essentially a headlong forest restoration technique employed to replenish the tree count of an urban city in a developing country and is popular in countries like India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and France.
