Punjab Issues New SOPs to Tackle Delta Variant During Eid Holidays


With a rapid increase in the transmission of the Delta variant of Coronavirus, the Punjab government has issued new SOPs to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the province during the Eid holidays.

According to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (PSHD), only vaccinated citizens will be allowed to travel across the inter-province boundary or enter tourist destinations in the province.

Hotel owners have been ordered to cancel the reservations of all unvaccinated citizens with immediate effect while Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) of tourists at sentinel sites in tourist spots will also be conducted.

Public transport in tourist spots will be allowed to operate at 70% of the total capacity while indoor dining in restaurants hosting tourists will be allowed with 50% occupancy.

Besides, essential businesses such as petrol pumps, hospitals, medical stores, vaccination centers, dairy shops, and restaurants will be allowed to operate for 24 hours while non-essential businesses will be required to follow the prescribed timings.

As Eid also marks the beginning of the wedding season, the provincial government has declared the Coronavirus vaccination mandatory for guests attending the ceremonies. Regardless of the capacities of wedding halls and event lawns, indoor ceremonies will be limited to 200 guests while outdoor events to 400 guests.
