The first-ever blind scholar completed his PhD in KPK

In northern Pakistan, a blind scholar has finished his PhD in education for exceptional children at the University of Peshawar’s Institute of Research and Education.

Dr. Habib Nawaz successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on Wednesday in front of a panel of specialists from several professions.

He discovered a shortage of facilities for blind and special children at educational institutes designated for them in the province during his investigation on blind children’s education.

According to his thesis, all of these institutes were under the administrative jurisdiction of the Social Welfare Department, whose officials lacked the necessary competence and capacity to help unique children grow mentally and physically.

He felt that there was more to be done in KP for the special children’s health, hygiene, education, and other concerns.

He urged that a special commission for blind children be established in KP to receive proper and timely assistance from government organizations.

Dr. Habib Nawaz claimed that a blind person can receive higher education and become a productive member of society, and that disabled people can achieve their goals if they don’t use their physical limitations as an excuse and put forth their best efforts with dedication and commitment.
