World’s first S “Merry Christmas” Auctions for $120,600 as NFT

The first SMS ever sent via a mobile phone in 1992 was recently auctioned off as an NFT for 107,000 euros ($120,600), according to the Aguttes auction house.

The buyer, whose identity was not published but who is a Canadian in the IT industry, now owns a one-of-a-kind digital reproduction of the first SMS message in the form of a Non-Fungible Token, or NFT.

The first SMS was a 15-character message wishing Vodafone employee Richard Jarvis a “Merry Christmas.”

NFTs are digital items that may be purchased and sold through blockchain technology. They have proven extremely popular among collectors, with one piece fetching about $70 million at auction earlier this year.
